Sunrise at Mono Lake in the Easter Sierras. This ancient lake is over 760,000 years old and covers over 69 square miles. An extremely high salinity prevents most life from living in the water but is is a sanctuary for many birds. One of Mono lake's most striking features is the large "tufas" that stretch out of the water like castles.
